With spring on its way and the pollinator population in decline, we’ve decided to help do our part by giving away free 5gs of RHS approved British Wildflower seeds with every UK purchase of any Ocean Embroidery item featuring plants or bee designs.

The loss of pollinators over the years has been attributed to the destruction of their habitat, food sources and climate change. These seeds are an excellent food source and create great habitats for a range of animals and pollinating insects including honey bees, butterflies and moths.
Some bee populations have managed to maintain themselves at a healthy number and this is thought to be in part due to environmental measures put in place by farmers, such as sowing wildflower strips.
In 2014 the government put in place a 10-year plan to help pollinating insects survive and thrive which you can read here.
Supporting pollinators across towns, cities and the countryside
” Encouraging the public to take action in their gardens, allotments, window boxes
and balconies to make them pollinator-friendly or through other opportunities
such as community gardening and volunteering on nature reserves.” – The National Pollinator Strategy: for bees and other pollinators in England.
Some additional things you can do to help boost the pollinator population:
- Cut grass less often and ideally remove the cuttings to allow plants
to flower. - Avoid disturbing or destroying nesting or hibernating insects, in
places like grass margins, bare soil, hedgerows, trees, dead wood or
walls. Especially in the winter as these provide much-needed shelter. - Minimize the use of pesticides, even organic ones.
There are no invasive species in your free pack and is the perfect mix for a great garden. You can expect to see an attractive and great smelling display of Chamomile, Corncockle, Cornflower, Marigold, Poppy, and Buttercup flowers starting to grow in around 4-8 weeks.
